Open Letter to Wellesley President Johnson: Signatures

I recently wrote an open letter to Wellesley College President Dr. Paula Johnson. the letter was prompted by a discussion with a current student regarding Wellesley’s mandate for students to receive the recently approved bivalent COVID booster vaccination. I have written in the past about the lack of evidence of safety and efficacy of this booster.

In my letter to Dr. Johnson, I made the case that the mandate is unsupported by science, poses potential risks to students, violates the principle of informed consent, and does not support the values espoused by Wellesley.

The post included a link to a signature page for those willing to sign. I have been very gratified to see that there is support for the letter. I am concerned that many of the supporters feel that they must remain anonymous for fear of reprisal. The climate of restricted speech is of great concern to me, as I have written about here. I recommend institutions like Wellesley College reflect on the message they are sending that creates this climate.

I would like to thank those who lent their names to this letter. It is a small act, but sometimes victory is achieved not by the spectacular, but by the sum of many small acts.

(Some bookkeeping: I think it is important that there are many medical professionals who lent their names to this. There are a lot of people lending their name and professional expertise to this. That said, Quijotesco is a one-man show. I did not attempt to validate signatures, and therefore any name must be considered unverified. I think fake names are likely rare, but there are undoubtedly those out there who enjoy trolling and need better hobbies.)
